Soulful singers Nina Mya and Tuomo will perform at Turku Sea Jazz in July!
25.3.2021
During the last weekend in July, Ruissalo Shipyard will serve some real delicacies for lovers of skillful singing! Nina Mya will crown Turku Sea Jazz’s Friday night with her record release concert, and on Saturday Tuomo will perform as the solist during a unique big band concert. Arrangements for the first Turku Sea Jazz festival are progressing like normal so far, but there is only a small number of tickets on sale in order to maintain safety distances during the event.
Award-winning, Tornio-based singer and composer Nina Mya will release her fourth album titled Just Another Lonely Soul during summer. In her new album, the singer has drawn influence especially from 60’s and 70’s soul music, all the way from Aretha Franklin to Stevie Wonder. Nina Mya’s new compositions support her honest lyrics on loneliness, love and life at its darkest. Her technically skilled and wide-ranging voice, as well as her strong interpretation, shines in this album that draws from soul and gospel music, where jazz elements are still present in the harmonies as well as in the style of the musicians. The concert will be the release concert of the album, which is coming out by the Turku-based record label Flame Jazz Records. Some of the top names present in Nina Mya’s band of seven are the recent Turku Jazz Festival artist of the year, pianist Henri Mäntylä, as well as the brilliant trumpetist Jukka Eskola. The artist promises to get the audience to sing along!
During Saturday 31.7. the brilliant, powerful Turku Jazz Orchestra gets soulful Tuomo as its solist. Known as both a pianist and singer, Tuomo Prättälä moves effortlessly between genres. Performing as a solo artist with his first name alone, he focuses on emotional storytelling through sensitive lyrics and soulful singing. The recently electronic production oriented artist presents a new side of himself at the Turku Sea Jazz festival. Tuomo’s songs feature big band arrangements written by Mikko Hassinen, Erno Tiittanen and Tuomo himself, which take the listener to the border of modern and traditional jazz, soul and electronic groove. Many of the songs in the concert have been composed especially for this big band context and are not yet available on record. The Turku Sea Jazz audience is therefor in for a completely unique experience!
