Panu Savolainen – vibraphone
Panu Savolainen‘s solo concert in the historic Seili church showcases the vibraphone in all its shades and colors. The audience is treated to dreamlike floating as well as percussive and virtuosic rhythm play. Over the years, Savolainen’s concert repertoire has evolved, featuring his own melodically rich compositions alongside borrowed pieces ranging from J.S. Bach to Finnish pop tunes.
Vibraphonist Panu Savolainen is known as a versatile and expressive musician, composer, and bandleader in jazz, classical, and other acoustic music genres. He rose to prominence in the Finnish music scene with his Herd trio formed in 2009, and particularly through the Jazzbasilli project with Herd and vocalist Aili Ikonen. In addition to his own Toivo ensemble celebrating the 100th anniversary of the legendary Finnish composer Toivo Kärki, and Panu Savolaisen Soiva Trio, Savolainen is recognized for collaborations with groups such as the JPP folk music ensemble and Vuokko Hovatta Kolmisin.
