Guitarist Raoul Björkenheim is one of the most internationally significant and distinctive figures in Finnish jazz and improvised music. Over the course of a long career, he has become known for his uncompromising artistic voice, where jazz, rock, and experimental music merge into a powerful and recognizable whole.
POLYFREE, performing in the garden of the main building on Seili Island, represents Björkenheim’s latest musical direction. His guitar playing continues to explore new sonic landscapes and modes of expression, energized by the band’s strong rhythm section: New York-based drummer Sam Ospovat and bassist Jori Huhtala.
The group’s music combines an intense groove, free improvisation, and a layered soundscape, where Björkenheim’s edgy guitar sound moves fluidly between structured form and spontaneous expression.
The unique setting of Seili adds an extra dimension to the concert – audiences can expect an energetic and surprising performance where modern jazz meets a close-to-nature concert environment.
