Joey Calderazzo (US)

American pianist Joey Calderazzo is widely regarded as one of the most acclaimed jazz musicians of his generation. Over the course of his long career, he has evolved from a child prodigy into an internationally celebrated artist whose expression combines virtuoso technique, deep swing and lyrical sensitivity. Calderazzo is especially known for his collaborations with Michael Brecker and Branford Marsalis, among others, but his own distinctive artistic voice shines just as clearly in his own projects.

The trio line-up, heard at Turku Sea Jazz, is the pianist’s long-standing and natural outlet for expression, where free improvisation, tight interplay and vivid interaction take centre stage. The trio’s repertoire includes Calderazzo’s original compositions as well as carefully chosen interpretations of jazz classics. Expect masterful piano jazz where tradition, playfulness and fearless spontaneity meet.
